"How to Pray Like a Righteous Man" (PrayerThatWorks SERIES - Week1)

This week we kick off a new series as Pastor Kamron shares 6 attributes of "Righteous Prayer". We are about to start off a new year. 2016 is quickly approaching. Let's start right with prayer being a major focus of the New Year.

Today's message really revolves around Elijah and the way he prayed to the Lord after a drought of over 3 years. Not only did  God bring the rain... but He showed the people that He was TRULY the God they needed to be worshiping.

If you need some pointers in your prayer life, listen to today's message and begin your journey of praying big giant prayers that you expect God to answer. He will. You can. It's time.

"Lord, please BLESS my mess!"

Have you ever wondered what it was REALLY like when Jesus came into this world? We setup our Nativities every year around Christmas time and it’s always very orderly and clean and peaceful. There is Mary and Joseph looking in adoration at little sleeping baby Jesus in the manger. There are shepherds and wise men flanking both sides doing the same. Even the animals are on the scene, quietly watching baby Jesus sleep.

But what REALLY happened? Because life is MESSY and just because Jesus is perfect doesn’t mean the nativity in reality was a “Precious Moment’s” scene. My guess… baby Jesus was crying and Mary was exhausted. The wise men weren’t there and the animals, IF they were there… didn’t all stand facing baby Jesus in silence. It was messy. It was not ideal. The “feeding trough/manger” wasn’t Mary’s first choice for a bed.

But… despite the mess, Jesus was born and God blessed US all in this. It was a glorious, wonderful birth of our Savior. Albeit a messier version than what we put on display. And that’s OK. Because God works in our mess. God wants to use YOU in your messy life too. Will you let Him?

"Prisoner of My Own Comfort"

Do you realize how phenomenally blessed we are as American’s? In comparison to the entire population of planet earth… we are filthy rich when it comes to our standards of living. Today… 2015… 1/3 of the world makes less than $2/day in wages. I don’t know about you… but I can spend more than that on coffee in one day! (And think it’s a good deal!)

We are a people of comfort.

This week, Pastor Kamron points out that comfort can easily become a prison if we think we are guaranteed it. If we think that comfort is our inheritance from God while still here on earth… we are in trouble. You can’t read the Bible and find a promise of a comfortable lifestyle. (In fact, you will find just the opposite.) Maybe this doesn’t sound like a message you want to hear… but if you love Jesus and want to be obedient to Him, this expectation of comfort needs to be dealt with.

"ALWAYS? thankful"

Yes, this week we will celebrate Thanksgiving. A special day we set aside every year to be... wait for it... thankful. :-) But as usual... God expects MORE from those of us who consider Jesus to be our Lord and Savior!

More. More thankfulness.

In fact, today's main passage from 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says we are to be thankful in ALL circumstances. Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron shares how a day of hunting last week shows how much work HE has to do. And we all are probably in the same place of needing to be MORE thankful!

Strong-Willed... Blessing or Curse?

Listen to this Sunday's message as Pastor Shanon shares a message about being STRONG willed. The crazy thing about this characteristic is it can be an amazing blessing... or a crazy curse! The reality of this message is... it's up to you. Are you going to fight AGAINST God... or FOR Him?

"Work It!"

Do you ever FAIL in life? If we are being honest we all must answer, "yes". It's part of life. Especially when your talking about our walk with Jesus... we fail.

"But it's what we DO with that failure that will define our lives... not the failure itself, but the RESPONSE to that failure."

Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron shares the answer to failure, repentance. He shares the reality that we are ALL "working out" our salvation according to today's Bible verse. And the biggest failure in our lives is not failing, it's QUITTING when we fail. Don't quit. Go to Jesus. He's waiting to forgive you right now.

"My Life/The Good News"

The things we experience and get excited about are the things we will passionately share with our friends and our family. If you have an amazing weekend and something really special happened, maybe you met a really famous person... on Monday you are going to share it right away with your co-workers or fellow students at school. We will tell everyone about "experiences" that are noteworthy and exciting.

If that is true, then what keeps us from sharing Jesus with everyone we know? Why do we seem to limit our discussions of what should be the focus of our lives? (Are we "experiencing" Jesus daily?)

Maybe, as Pastor Kamron shares in today's message... maybe we are failing to "experience" all God has to offer us. Maybe we are failing to recognize Jesus is alive and present in our life today! Listen and see if this is something you need to pray about in YOUR life too.

"God's STILL Amazing"

Pastor Kamron saw the "Ore Dock" shown in the picture recently for the first time in Marquette, MI. It's a neat part of history even though today it sits abandoned and unused. Funny how we tend to relegate once coveted and necessary things to the history books.

But one thing we can't afford to do that with is God. We can't look at the Bible and think "Wow, God WAS so powerful and amazing back then..." Today's main passage is Hebrews 13:8 (NLT) which says:

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

We know that. We claim that. We repeat that... but do we LIVE that? Do we believe Jesus is just as powerful in our lives today as He was a few thousand years ago as we read in the Bible? We should. We must. The world around us doesn't need a history lesson. They need to see that Jesus is alive and moving in us today. Let's introduce them to Jesus.

"Holy Stankiness"

Is there a Biblical "stankiness" that we as Christians are called to smell like? Sort of. According to the apostle Paul, we are to have the aroma of Christ. And to some... this aroma brings REALITY to the forefront.

The reality for many is their own fate of "death and doom".

Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron shares the promise of Victory that Christians have but also the call to Holy Stankiness that we must embrace as the reality the world needs to smell!

"reSTART"

In the picture here you will notice two common items. A drinking straw and a drywall screw. Unfortunately... they both have some form of a flaw that equates to them being unusable as they were originally intended. (The straw is sealed on one end and the screw has no threads.)

Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron shares how WE too can find ourselves in the place of being unusable by God when we wander from the Will of God. Like Jonah (today's passage), you will find yourself in a place of needing to make a choice. Hopefully you won't have to make this choice in the belly of a whale.

The choice is simple. Remain "away" from God and suffer the consequences of that choice. OR... repent, receive God's Grace and Forgiveness... and simply, reSTART.

The choice is yours.

"It's HIS Plan"

Today is a tough message because Pastor Kamron shares with the church that Pastor Ryan and Kristin are moving. We have enjoyed their ministry along side us over this past 5 months. Sometimes when God has a new plan... our instant reaction is WHY? But as you will hear in today's message, the "why" isn't what's important.

Because God's Plan... is better!

We must find obedience and faith in God to simply take the next step directed by the Lord. Even if it doesn't make sense. Even if we don't understand. Because it's not MY plan... "It's HIS Plan".

"Refocus"

Have you ever looked back on your life and realized you changed... without even knowing it? Have you ever done that with your relationship with Jesus?

Today, Pastor Kamron shares some personal conviction that he believes is true for his own life as well as the church. We need to refocus. We need to place Jesus once more at the top of our list of priorities in our lives. Complacency has set in and it's not welcome.

Listen to this week's message where we look at the need to refocus on Jesus through the filter of Psalm 27. Then we look at Epaphras, a prayer warrior in the New Testament that we need to become like, as Believers in Jesus. Let's do this!

"Do Gooder"

Last week Pastor Kamron shared a message from Acts, chapter 10. In that passage, Peter shared the Good News to Cornelius and his household. He told them about Jesus. And one thing Peter said about Jesus is the topic of today's message:

"Jesus went around doing good..."

Now, we might think the word "good" is a bit abstract in today's world... because it is. But according to Pastor Kamron that is not the case when it comes to "Goodness" as talked about 100's of times throughout the Bible. In fact, it is REALLY important that we understand what it means because we TOO are called to do GOOD. According to this week's message... we are called to do GOODER.

Listen today and see if it's not an area of your life that you could "do gooder" in.

"Who is MY Cornelius?"

Have you ever heard someone clearly speak... and take what they said completely WRONG? You know, your spouse or friend tells you something that should be easy to understand... but you misunderstand what they meant? It happens all the time, right?

Well, what about God's Word? Have you ever read a passage in the Bible and thought you understood it... to find out later you got it wrong? Not good.

Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron looks at Peter's apparent misunderstanding of the Great Commission. Yeah, Peter the rock. Jesus said to make disciples of ALL nations... yet Peter seemed to miss the "ALL" part in the early part of his ministry when it came to reaching out to the gentiles. (Namely Cornelius in Acts)

It makes us ask ourselves this question, "Who is MY Cornelius?"

"What IF?"

Listen to this week's message from our associate pastor here at Onaway Assembly of God, Pastor Ryan Sivyer. He titled this message "What If?"

Let's explore the ever-so captivating question that sparks the innocent imagination of a kid that eventually transforms into the fearful mind of most adults. The "What-if...?" question. Talking about how FEAR can pull us away from our firm foundation in Christ as our minds wander the "what-if" chamber. The book of Genesis shows us how the first sin and subsequent fear makes us want to run from God rather than turn to Him and face our fears.

With the promises of God's Word and the power of the Holy Spirit we can be equipped to fight the everyday battles with confidence and peace. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."

"Surrender... Daily"

Today we are looking at the life of King Asa in the Old Testament. He was a great King early in his life… he started off depending solely on the Lord. He sought God when a huge army came to battle Judah… and God answered with a victory against a foe they should not have won against.

God is awesome!

But… (You probably knew this was coming), King Asa got comfortable and secure in himself. Over time he lost his dependence on God. Many years later a similar battle came to Judah’s door and this time… King Asa did not seek the Lord. The old saying goes something like this, “He won the battle, but lost the war.”

King Asa became bitter and angry towards God and it cost him his life.

Surrendering DAILY is a practice we all need to embrace. Listen to this week's message and see if you have some surrendering to do in YOUR life.

"Are we ONE or MANY?"

Let's be honest here. Some of the things we read in the Bible are difficult to understand. Some of what Jesus commands and teaches are hard to put into practice. And some of them seem down right impossible.

But we also know that we can do ALL things through Christ who gives us strength. And if Jesus says it... we are obligated to do it.

Today's message is no exception. Jesus prays over us in John 17 that we are to be "one" with each other JUST like Jesus is "one" with the Father. Now we can vaguely grasp the concept of Jesus and the Father being "one", but US too? WE are supposed to be "one" with each other "just as" Jesus is one with the Father?

Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron shared not only the possibility of this happening... but more importantly the necessity of the Church pursuing Supernatural Unity.

"Meaningless Life + Jesus = Joy"

Today we look at an interesting Book of the Bible called Ecclesiastes. This is a teaching from the wise King Solomon about the meaning of life. Surprisingly... the answer is "Everything is meaningless".

King Solomon came to the same conclusion many modern day thinkers come to... that we are born with nothing and we leave with nothing. We spend our lives amassing wealth and pursuing happiness but in the end... we leave with nothing to show for it. Just a memory of a meaningless life! But is that really the only option? Or is there more available?

Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron shares the equation that "Meaningless Life + Jesus = Joy". Pastor Kamron also invites his brother-in-law Jake to share his personal testimony that highlights the redemptive power of Jesus when you simply surrender your life to Him. A powerful example that Jesus wants to infuse JOY back into your life too!

"Seize the Moment"

This morning we spent some extra time hearing about a mission's trip that someone is going on to Costa Rica and we are blessed to be able to support. We also spent some time praying for and laying hands on a fellow member who was told she has cancer. (She is now healed... that's faith my friends!)

But all the extra time for prayer and investment into missions... it took time away from the message today. Was it time well spent? I'll give a resound YESIR!

It's appropriate when you consider the message is titled "Seize the Moment" and the topic is about spending our time wisely as Christians. Do we realize the priceless value of our time? Do we in fact realize our time is not even OUR time... but God's time? Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron shares from his heart some personal failures in this area as well as the declaration to change. It will be worth your "time".

"Freedom Has An Expiration"

Happy Independence Day! This is a weekend that we, as Americans, should truly embrace and appreciate. We have a freedom that most people in this world do not have. But what would it take for you to give this amazing freedom UP? Can you? Will you?

Believe it or not, the freedom we inherit today has an expiration date. You don't know when... but it DOES. What if there was another, BETTER freedom available to you?

Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron shares the freedom that does not expire. A freedom that is eternal and untouchable. It is found in Jesus Christ and it will cost you nothing but allegiance to Him.

"This is the Way I Walk"

This is the first part of a new series called "This is the Way I Walk". Pastor Kamron shares today a vital truth we as Christians need to understand. He poses a question that we must ask ourselves when we KNOW we are "right" on a topic or in a situation with others...

EVEN IF I AM RIGHT, IS IT WORTH THE FIGHT?

If I am concerned about those around me who are lost... I must choose my battles wisely. Pastor Kamron shares three points to consider before deciding to fight when you know you are right. What will is cost? Can I fight in love? Will I lose my witness?

Listen to today's message and see if this is something you need to apply when YOU are right about something and you have an opportunity to defend yourself. Is it worth fighting for?

"Turn-around People"

We had a guest speaker this week, J.p. Dorsey. J.p. is a pastor at Grand Rapids First Assembly of God and he is also the director at Northpoint Bible College. He shared a powerful message about being the "turn-around person" in YOUR family regardless of your past.

Being Father's Day, J.p. shared the reality that fathers are just human beings and they simply are not perfect. He shared the story of King David and the impact David had on some of his own sons. Some good... and some bad. Listen for yourself and see if you deal with any of the 3 common responses we have to trauma with our fathers. (Your father has an impact on your life... good or bad.)

Let's heed this important message and let's redeem our families and our community, let be turn-around people for Jesus!

If we say the word "Tension"... most people typically think of pain, inconvenience, headaches, breaking points, etc. Tension is not something we WANT, or SEEK to have more of in our lives.

Pastor Kamron shares in today's message that we need to re-think tension. We need to embrace tension and find the blessings of tension. (There are more benefits to tension that you might think) Listen to this Sunday's message and see if you too can find JOY in your own tension!

"Ready or NOT, Here I Come... (Jesus)"

Here is the short and sweet synopsis of this message today. Jesus is coming soon for His Church... His Bride. (As it is compared to in God's Word.) We simply need to be ready.

Think about a childhood game of "hide & seek" where the seeker counts to a certain number and everyone else hides. When the seeker is ready to come get you... they shout, "Ready or not, here I come"! Well... Jesus is going to return for His Bride (Church). Are we ready for Jesus to say "Ready of not, here I come!"?

Listen to Pastor Kamron's message this week that really is a stark reminder that we must be ready at all times. Jesus could return... today. Let's be ready!

"The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall"

We are called as Christians to reach the lost, to spread the Gospel... to shine our light for the world to see. And for the most part, we do. But what happens when you share Jesus with a friend or relative and they aren't interested? The knee jerk and correct answer is you PRAY for them, right?

But what happens after you have prayed for the same person for weeks, months or sometimes years? Well, more than likely you will begin to lose your passion and hope that this person will EVER accept Jesus! Then you don't pray as often for them and you stop sharing Jesus with them... because they simply won't change.

Today, Pastor Kamron shares the need we all have to KEEP PRAYING and reaching out to the people in our lives that fit that bill. Using King Nebuchadnezzar as an example of God reaching a stubborn and prideful king after YEARS of reaching out to him... you can be encouraged that God can also reach the person YOU are praying for. Listen to today's message and see if you need to re-light your intercession fire in your life!

"My Heroes"

Today Pastor Kamron shares some of his childhood heroes... and the fascination most of us have with heroes in our younger years. But as we grow older and mature into adulthood... something happens when it comes to our heroes. We no longer recognize heroes like we once did...

But should that be the case? Is there are great hero, even for us as adults? The answer is a resounding YES! Jesus is the greatest hero of all time!

So what does this mean? What should that cause me to do in my life in recognition of my greatest hero of all, Jesus? Listen to today's message as we discuss the concept of not only recognizing Jesus as our hero, but living like Him... and walking in the same way He did. Let's put on our capes and be like our hero, Jesus!

When life is good, easy and comfortable... complacency sets in and something dangerous happens. Suddenly God becomes a God of last resort. Suddenly you will find yourself in a place you don't want to be with no idea of how you got there.

Pastor Kamron encourages you to "Turn OFF the Cruise Control". Don't enable yourself to become complacent in your walk with the Lord. "Mother's, Righteousness and Skinny Jeans"

This weeks message is based on Colossians 3. In this passage it states we are chosen by God to be the holy people He loves. Us... God CHOSE us. As mind boggling as that concept is, what follows is a list of qualities we are to "clothe" ourselves in.

But according to Pastor Kamron, unlike a pair of skinny jeans... we can't "opt out" of this style of attire God requires us to wear. (Which BTW, Pastor Kamron refuses to wear Skinny Jeans) We can't "try on" tenderhearted mercy for example, and then throw it away because it's not comfortable or doesn't feel right. Unlike Skinny Jeans, we MUST wear the outfit God has picked out for us.

Listen to today's message and see if there are a few articles of clothing you are missing that God expects YOU to wear.

We... the Church... have a duty to reach the lost. Truth is, I fail daily at loving my neighbor but I am great at loving myself. Lets turn that trend around here in Onaway. Lets make Jesus the main attraction of our lives. Let's GO and make disciples!

"The Most Interesting Man in the World" Week TWO

We are in our second week of "The Most Interesting Man in the World" series. Today Pastor Kamron asks a very important question that we must each answer... "Who is Jesus to ME?"

Jesus said in today's passage that He is "the Way, the Truth and the Life". Jesus draws a "line in the sand" and says He is the ONLY way to God. Only "The Most Interesting Man in the World" can make a claim like that and back it up. Is Jesus that man?

The truth of the matter is this... you can't decide to follow Jesus with any level of certainty until you first come to grips with WHO Jesus really is. He is not JUST the most interesting man in the world... He is, the Son of God.

"How Do YOU Say Hosanna?"

How do YOU say "Hosanna"? Not how do you pronounce it... but how do you MEAN it? What is your motivation behind speaking it out in a declaration to God or singing it exuberantly in song?

Today being Palm Sunday, Pastor Kamron is sharing the importance of being confident and unshakable in our declaration of "Hosanna"! Perhaps there are many different meanings to this word and it is rather important to not only understand those differences... but to embrace ONE in particular.

"What Color Do You Paint Jesus In?"

If you are frequently on the internet, especially Facebook... you have probably already seen the "black and blue" dress that is now quite famous. Or maybe for you, it's a "white and gold" dress! (Depending on the person looking at the picture, it can be different colors. Crazy right?) But in the end the dress is really "black and blue", which means SOMEONE is wrong!

In today's message, Pastor Kamron states that if it's that easy to see a dress in different colors... what is the chance we all see Jesus in different "colors" too! And if you see Him one way and someone else sees Him another... that means someone has Him "colored" the wrong "color"! The question is, what if it's YOU?

"Do You Trust God With Your Junk?"

Jesus says the greatest commandment is to Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. That is a tall order for most of us. That is a difficult task to truly commit your entire life to God. But if you truly want to live a life of obedience, it's a non-negotiable.

Pastor Kamron shares with us today that we all have moments of failure. It's not a new problem. God has been trying to get people to fully trust in Him since Adam and Eve. Realizing this doesn't mean your off the hook. So maybe the greatest commandment is worth another look. Maybe you need to reapply this Truth to your life. It won't wipe away all your JUNK... but it will surely prevent you from wallowing in the stench!

"Can You See It?"

Believe it or not, we have a "slavery" problem... right here in our own back yard. Right here in Onaway, MI. There are hundreds if not thousands of people within a 15 mile radius of our church who are enslaved.

Are YOU free? Are you confident that your eternity is set and you have a home in heaven waiting for you when you leave this earth? If yes, then you have a duty to free others who are not. Listen to this weeks message and see if you are missing something. See if maybe you have been blind to many slaves that are all around you. They need Jesus and you are needed to introduce Him.

"Are You Prolific?"

What does it mean to be PROLIFIC? It's an interesting word that you don't hear very often anymore. But as Pastor Kamron shares in this message, it's an important concept to learn. One simple definition of the word prolific, is to "bear much fruit". Are you? Are YOU bearing fruit in your life?

Listen to today's message and learn the importance of becoming a prolific follower of Jesus. It's a lifetime pursuit... and a worthwhile endeavor.

"Peace in the Pain"

In today's message we are going to talk about something that Pastor Kamron says we can all count on experiencing... and that is pain. Pain is part of life whether you are a Believer in Jesus or NOT. But in the midst of the pain... we can declare and grab ahold of a promise Jesus tells us He is giving us.

Peace.

Peace is ours as Christians. Peace is ours even when we are in pain. Peace is something we can depend on and appreciate no matter WHAT life throws at us. Listen to today's message and see if you need to recognize this peace more in your life.

"A Case of Mistaken IdENEMY"

Do you have people in your life that you consider you "enemy"? Maybe they hurt you or wronged you in some way? When you think of them or see them... you are reminded of the pain and suffering they caused you or caused someone you care about.

The world in all its wisdom says they deserve your hatred and you have every right to view them as your enemy. But like usual... Jesus flips worldly wisdom upside down and commands us to act differently. In this case, Jesus tells us to "love our enemies".

Listen to today's message based on Luke 6:27 and see if there are some people in your life that you need to view through a new set of glasses. This is quite frankly not a decision you must make, but a DUTY you must obey.

"A Corporate Call to Fast and Pray"

We don't have to WAIT for much anymore... we EXPECT things to happen quickly. We want fast food, quick grocery checkout lines... we want immediate answers to our questions, just "Google" it! We cook in microwaves because it faster. (It's surely not because it tastes better!)

But there are some things that we still have to WAIT for... the Lord being a BIG one!

Listen to today's message as Pastor Kamron calls us as a church to a time of corporate prayer and fasting starting on Wednesday night after our "Go Deeper" service at 6:30PM. Let's seek God together. Let's wait on the Lord, let's listen for His still, quiet voice. Join us THIS WEEK for 7 days of Fasting and Prayer.

"Walk with Me"

It's a New Year! Many of us have resolutions we are beginning to undertake. Some of us have already quit or failed at them... only 4 days into the new year. (Bummer) Today, Pastor Kamron shares a resolution that he is encouraging us to edit into our current list of New Year's Resolutions...

To walk in a close relationship with God.

This is not a new thought and as Pastor Kamron looks at Adam and Eve's family tree, you will see that there are grave consequences to ignoring this in your life! Listen to today's message and see if this is something you should focus on in 2015 for yourself.
